Traditional Knowledge:
Joseph Sanders was the son of John Sanders and Martha Harris. He attended Carlisle Indian Industrial in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. Joseph also served his country during World War I. After the war, he married Lillie Beck, a member of the Cherokee Nation. He was a frequent informant for anthropologists visiting the reservation. He died in February 1930.
